How to remove a battery from a laptop

Laptop batteries do not require constant removal from the device, they must be inside. But even if all the rules and recommendations for operation are observed, sooner or later the power supply will have to be removed and replaced, or put in order. To do everything right and not to “break the wood”, you should know about safety precautions, as well as the correct ways to remove the battery.

How to remove the battery

A laptop battery is an important component that determines the operation of its processes. Therefore, you need to prepare the laptop itself so that it loses its power source. Step-by-step steps for proper extraction:

  • Turn off the laptop completely by pressing the shutdown button. If the button for some reason does not work, then shutdown should be done from the desktop, through the Start menu.
  • Disconnect the charging cable from the power outlet and from the device itself. A charger sticking out of the outlet will waste excessive energy, and a cable connected to the laptop will create a risk for a short circuit and burning of the computer when removing the battery.
  • Depending on the model of the laptop, the battery is attached using two latches on the outside or a snap mechanism inside. The method of uncoupling should be described in the operating instructions that came with the laptop. Turning the computer upside down, you should pay attention to the type of battery mounting and use it to remove it. Most batteries have a special plastic protrusion that you need to pull to pull out the battery, because the details of high-quality laptops fit snugly together. Sometimes the battery can be screwed on. To extract it, you have to unscrew them.
  • Take the necessary steps to restore the functions of the old battery or purchase a new power source.

If you have Internet access, choosing the right battery for your laptop model is not difficult. But if the computer is quite old, then there is a possibility that the batteries are no longer being manufactured for it, and then it is worth making an attempt to restore the functions of the old by individual elements. To accomplish this task, you need to open the battery - find the joints on the plastic case and disconnect the hooks and troughs. Inside are the cylinders. Their numbers need to be recorded, after which new ones should be purchased and inserted into the battery case in the same order in which the failed options were installed.

Reference! If the elements were selected correctly, then the laptop will work again, and the battery can be used as long as the warranty provides.

Precautionary measures

There are several rules that can help keep the battery and laptop in working condition during and after extraction:

  • Only remove the battery when the computer is completely turned off and disconnected from the network.
  • It is strongly recommended that you charge the battery more than 50% before.
  • Store the extracted power source in a dry place without direct sunlight, the possibility of contact with metals and at a temperature of 16 to 34 degrees.
  • It is advisable to fully charge the battery at least once a month, and then completely discharge it - this will extend the shelf life.
  • When re-attaching the battery to the device, insert it tightly until it clicks.
