DIY air dryer for an apartment

Excessive humidity in the home negatively affects the well-being of a person, it also harms furniture, things, laminate flooring and other items. Under these conditions, fungi and mold spread, which adversely affect the respiratory system, and the allergic reaction of the body. It can also trigger oncological and other serious diseases. In order to maintain an acceptable level of air humidity in your home and utility rooms, you must have a dehumidifier. A purchased device is quite expensive, but you can make this device yourself.

How to make a dehumidifier yourself

Dehumidifiers sold in retail chains differ in functionality, level of efficiency and operational reliability. The main details of such devices:

  • fan;
  • evaporator;
  • capacity for collecting water;
  • capacitor;
  • Control Panel.

The principle of operation of such devices is as follows:

  1. The fan draws in room air into the evaporator.
  2. A sharp decrease in temperature inside the device leads to the fact that moisture in the air goes into a liquid-like state and flows into a collection tank.
  3. After filling the moisture container, it is discharged from the device through drainage tubes.
  4. The dried air passes through a radiator and is removed from the device, previously warmed up by high temperature.

It would seem that to reduce humidity in the room it is enough to only raise the air temperature. But this can greatly overdry it, which is as bad as waterlogged air.

Note! The correct device to dry the air should not overdry it much. For control, you can put an acquired hygrometer in a homemade device.

What materials and tools will be required

To make an absorptive dehumidifier with your own hands, you will need the following tools and items:

  • two-liter plastic bottles - 2 pieces;
  • knitting needle, needle or nail;
  • a box of matches or a lighter;
  • scissors or knife;
  • Scotch;
  • sealant;
  • scissors;
  • gloves for work;
  • substance for absorption;
  • fan.

Silica gel is acquired as an absorption material. It can be used repeatedly, it is enough only to dry after use. However, its properties are not lost. For one device, 200 g of absorbent is sufficient.

You can use a charger for a mobile phone, a rechargeable battery, or ordinary batteries as power for a fan.

Important points when assembling the device

When choosing the model of the desiccant to be assembled, it should be noted that the condensation dehumidifier not only removes high humidity, but can also reduce air temperature by about 5 degrees. Therefore, when using it, the heater should be turned on. Install in such a way that the air flows intersect.

An important point! When organizing the dehumidification of the air, the general humidity of the room should be determined so that too much dehumidification does not occur. In a room in which humidity exceeds a threshold of 70%, drainage must be carried out.

A self-made device does not always have a beautiful appearance, therefore it is usually used for rooms intended for household purposes.

Dehumidifier for an apartment on your own: step by step instructions

There are several options for self-manufacturing air dehumidifiers. The easiest way is to make this device out of plastic bottles.

Option 1

You will need 2 bottles of plastic (each volume is 2 liters). Holes are made in the bottom of one of the bottles using a nail or knitting needle heated over a fire. Then it is cut with scissors across, approximately in the middle.

Make holes in the upper half and tighten its lid. Then turn it over and place it inside the bottom half. Absorbent is poured into the upper part (silica gel can be used). About 250 g of this product is enough.

At the second bottle, the bottom is cut, and a fan is attached at a height of 10 cm from the edge of the lower cut. The air stream is directed in the opposite direction from the neck. You can use a regular small fan or cooler for your computer.

Then another bottle with a cut bottom is inserted into the container with absorbent material. Joints of parts are pasted with tape.

Although this device is a fairly straightforward device, but it can help cope with increased importance. Moreover, the cost of its manufacture (temporary, physical and financial) is very low.

It can be placed in the children's room or in the bedroom. If you put a decorative cover on the bottle or make a decoupage, you can get an original decorative element.

Option 2

A dehumidifier can be made from the refrigerator. The main condition is for the compressor to work. All doors should be twisted from it. Plexiglass is cut into the shape of the door. In the middle of it a hole is cut out the size of an equal ventilation grill. At the next stage, a fan is mounted in it so that air enters the interior of the refrigerator. This can be done using self-tapping screws. All joints must be sealed with silicone sealant.

Then drill small holes in the upper part of the plexiglass. Instead, you can attach a second fan, just put it on the contrary, so that the air is blown out of the refrigerator.

A small container is placed inside the device to collect condensate moisture. To collect condensate, a hose above the compressor with this capacity is connected using a hose. All joints are sealed with silicone or ordinary tape.

Now you can turn on the dehumidifier. The fan and the refrigerator are simultaneously turned on. This dehumidifier can reduce indoor humidity by about 10%. The main disadvantage is the large volume of the device.

Basement dehumidifier

To dry the air in the basement, you can make a device from materials sold in the plumbing department of the store. You should purchase a sewer tee with a diameter of 110 cm.

At the bottom of the tee, a cap is screwed with holes made in it. In the side opening of the revision lid, the plug must be threaded. It makes a hole the size of a fan. You should buy a fan with a capacity of about 95 cubic meters per hour. It is securely installed in the hole made by the plug and screwed into the tee.

Then, on the inner surface of the sewer tee, a metal mesh coated with a fine fabric mesh is installed. After that, the inside is filled with adsorbent (silicone gel). Such an adsorbent is produced in the form of granules, within which there are pores. Moisture collects inside the granules. Approximately 1 kg of silicone gel is contained in the finished device.

The finished device for the cellar is attached with a clamp to the wall. After installing it, you can turn it on. One hour is enough for all the air in the basement to pass through this device.

Such an amount of agent can absorb up to 0.5 kg of moisture from the air, which settles inside the adsorbent in 1 hour of operation. After that, the gel can be dried in a microwave oven, turning it on for 10 minutes, and then the product can be reused.
