Keyboard Keyboard Groups

The keyboard is capable of performing many different tasks, for this, in the Windows operating system there are many different purposes and functional combinations for buttons. Each button on the keyboard performs one or more functions that can be divided into groups.

Keyboard shortcuts for major groups

The main groups of keys are divided into basic tasks:

  1. For work with programs - Functional.
  2. To enter information in the form of text - Character.
  3. Keys for cursor control.
  4. Additional keys that perform several functions at once.
  5. Special keys.

Each group should dwell in more detail.

The function keys are represented by the F1-F12 buttons, and they are intended to be executed inside program commands. Each of the twelve buttons is designed to perform a specific function, whether it is calling for help, closing a highlighted window, or calling a search engine.

Character keys are required to enter information. They are also called alphanumeric. In addition to entering information, they are responsible for executing commands in hot key combinations.

The cursor keys allow you to move the pointer. And also replace RMB and LMB on the mouse. Among other things, the keys automatically move the cursor to the beginning / end of the line, as well as up / down the page.

Additional keys work in two modes. They are located to the right of the keyboard and are a set of numbers from 0 to 9, as well as buttons with arithmetic operations, the "Del", "Enter" and "Num Lock" keys. The latter is responsible for switching the operating mode of the additional keys. If Num Lock is turned on, which will be indicated by the glow of a special indicator above, then additional keys serve as input for mathematical operations and digital values. If Num Lock is turned off, the indicator device does not light, then the buttons perform the functions of controlling the pointer.

Special keys are represented by buttons such as "Enter", "Esc", "Shift", "Delete", "Blackspace", "Insert" and others. Each of these keys is responsible for a special action, whether it is closing the program, entering or deleting information, or for combining hot keys for quick access to certain functions of the operating system.

What groups of keys can be selected on the keyboard

The keys are also capable of performing several functions. In order to ensure that several functions are performed by the same buttons, a variety of button combinations exist.

In total, they are divided into several main groups:

  1. The main ones. Designed to provide basic functions when working with Windows. Such as: switching between windows, opening new windows, zooming in / out and others. Also in this list there are functions for opening special settings and Windows applications (as, for example, a combination of win + P opens special opportunities for managing multiple monitors).
  2. General Keyboard Shortcuts Represented by combinations of buttons. Which are responsible mainly for working with windows and information. The famous "Ctrl + C" and "Ctrl + V" are assigned to this group.
  3. Keyboard shortcuts for working with text. This list contains the same keyboard shortcuts as in the hotkey group, but in addition to them there are keyboard shortcuts for moving the cursor and working with documents.
  4. Combinations for working with files. Key features for editing, editing and transferring a file using a keyboard shortcut.
  5. Keys for working with Explorer. These combinations are intended primarily to facilitate the search for folders / files and work with them, as well as navigation and management.
  6. Combinations for working with windows. These combinations make it easier to switch and control between active and inactive windows, applications, etc. Usually, an additional list in the form of "Combinations for working with dialog boxes" is highlighted in this group, the keys in it perform the same functions, however, their combinations may vary.
  7. Combinations for working in browsers. Typically, developers standardize browser controls using hotkeys. This allows you to highlight keyboard shortcuts for managing browsers in a separate group.
