How to remove ear pads from headphones

Everyone knows such an element of headphones as ear pads. All models have them and are special silicone tips for comfortable putting on and convenience in listening to music. Compared to previous versions made of a solid plastic case, the silicone coating fills the auricle much nicer and provides soft contact with the skin without damaging it. Various options have been created, differing in shape, size and material.

Unfortunately, the purchased headset is not always equipped with exactly those ear pads that will comfortably sit in the ears of the buyer. In this case, they should be replaced, which is not always possible to do due to the complexity of the design of some types of headsets. In our article we will consider how to remove and replace them if necessary.

Since the most popular version of the headset is the intra-channel model (it is also called "droplets"), we will consider it first and tell you how to remove the nozzles from it. In order to do everything quickly and correctly, we recommend that you follow all the instructions:

  1. First, expand the outside by opening the petals out. Only the core will remain on the headphone case.
  2. After the petals are removed, you can begin to remove the ear pads.
  3. Gently with two fingers grab the central part and begin to pull it together.
  4. For convenience, you can try to slightly twist the nozzle, trying to remove it.
  5. Gradually you will succeed. Now do the same with the second earphone.
  6. At the end, return the petals to their original place, turning them to the center.

IMPORTANT! Do not sharply remove the nozzle and try to tear it off, this can damage the surface or tear the ear pads. It is also not recommended to pull on the outer petals, as they are quite soft and prone to deformation.

Following we will consider the version of overhead headsets. Their main difference is that they, as the name implies, grab the ear from the outside and do not fit into the ear canal. Accordingly, special coatings will be applied over them, which we need to remove. It is not difficult to do this, but you must also do everything slowly and carefully so as not to damage the cover and headphone mechanisms:

  1. Examine the headset and try to understand how the ear pads are attached to it. In classic versions, elastic is used to tighten the base, or special latches.
  2. In the case of latches, you first need to carefully disconnect one of them, slightly bending. This can be done using a card or a toothpick.
  3. After that, bend the ear cushions in the opposite direction and disconnect the remaining latches.

If necessary, put on the cover again simply by pressing it against the headphone casing and pressing lightly. It is important to observe two rules: combine the fasteners with the holes and do not press too hard so as not to break.

Full-size headphone models, unlike overhead ones, are much larger in size, completely cover the ear and create a barrier to external noise. This creates the best conditions for high-quality sound.

For full-sized versions, the disassembly principle is practically no different from overhead options. But depending on the model and version of the device, there may be significant differences in their mounting. In order not to repeat, we will consider the option when the ear pads are attached using a special plastic ring.

To replace, you will need to perform the following steps:

  1. Find the ring, fingering your fingers around the entire perimeter of the earphone.
  2. Pull the ear cushions slightly in one direction and at the same time, carefully begin to pull it off the case. The point is to remove the ring from one latch. If at least one is revealed, then all the others will easily depart.
  3. After that, gently remove the nozzle from the remaining latches.
  4. For installation, it is enough to attach the ear cushion to the case and to fall into all the holes at the same time, and then slightly press until a characteristic click is heard.

When properly connected, the nozzle must be held even and tight, while not moving out of place.
